Mental Health Services

If you’ve thought about coming to counseling even once, or think you might want a different type of counseling experience, then it’s probably time! We believe that tending to your mental health is just as important as tending to your physical health; in fact we know that they are interrelated. We have two Mental Health professionals here at VWS who have different types of expertise and are able to meet your needs in different ways. Both of our therapists use a holistic, collaborative, creative, and client-centered approach, and are able to provide clients with a different experience in therapy - bringing in evidence-based and mind-body techniques, mindfulness, art, and play - in addition to talk therapy.

Although, Kendall and Lemecia do work with clients separately they excel when combining their skills and working together to help shared clients reach their emotional wellness goals.  Both Kendall and Lemecia use therapies which go beyond “talk therapy” which helps clients to experience rapid symptom relief from; depression, anxiety, panic, phobias, trauma, PTSD, chronic stress, grief and loss. Besides struggling emotionally many of Kendall and Lemecia’s shared clients also experience health concerns such; as chronic fatigue, aches and pains, digestive issues, insomnia and auto immune disorders.

Kendall and Lemecia work collaboratively to support their clients in reaching their therapy goals. A typical collaboration could start with Kendall working with the shared client first to assist them with mindfulness training, Breathwork and gentle body movements to reduce stress and create a state of calm. In addition, she helps clients to prepare for trauma focused work by using resource skills to strengthen a feeling of safety and security. This can happen through using visualization practices of feeling loved, memories of loved ones or strengthening a sense of confidence through visualizing mastery of a skill. Using mind-body practices deactivates the fight, flight freeze response in clients preparing them for trauma focused work with Lemecia.

Lemecia will then work with the shared client to do trauma focused work. Lemecia will help the client to reprocess any disturbing memories, either past or recent which affects their ability to live life to the fullest.  As a highly trained EMDR therapist Lemecia uses the eight phase EMDR approach to identify and process trauma memories. The EMDR process allows for the full resolution of the traumatic experiences allowing more helpful thoughts and feelings to emerge about oneself and the release of trauma held in the body.

Clients will typically continue session with both Kendall and Lemecia until they have reached their treatment goals.  The collaborative process between two therapists allows clients to feel supported, get the help they need quickly and to have long lasting results when treatment is over! Kendall and Lemecia will determine if additional health services are needed for their clients progress and will refer to other holistic practioners in the Vancouver Wellness Studio.

"Kendall's approach in therapy is the necessity of healing both the mind and body...through discovery and understanding. My journey today has purpose, a renewed sense of hope, which is something I can hang on to when everything else is in chaos."
